Frequently Asked Questions
What the heck is a Madisaurus?

The Madisaurus is either a photo scavenger hunt, motor rally, and award gala in Madison, Wisconsin, or a make-believe dinosaur. Either definition works, really.

How much does it cost?

The Madisaurus is a completely free event!

Who can participate in the Madisaurus?

Anybody and everybody (although those posessing some form of private transportation will be at a decided advantage).

What happens at the Madisaurus?

The Madisaurus comes in two main parts: First there is the Rally and then the Regale (the closing award ceremony and dinner). There is also a wholly optional "Breakfast Briefing" at the start of the event. You can participate in any, all, or only some of these aspects as you choose.

For the full schedule of the day's events:

  • 9:00 a.m. - Morning briefing and breakfast at The Silver Eagle Bar & Grill.
  • 9:00 a.m. - The Destination List is released.
  • 9:00 a.m. - The Madisaurus Rally officially starts.
  • 4:00 p.m. - The Madisaurus Rally officially ends.
  • 6:00 p.m. - The Regale starts a secret location (attend the Breakfast Briefing to find out where!)
  • Is the Madisaurus a race?

No. Scoring is just for fun and speeding is discouraged. The point of Madisaurus is not to go fast anyway, but rather enjoy some of the beautiful destinations and back roads around Madison, Wisconsin.

Do I need to be on a team?

You can participate either as an individual or as part of a team.

    Who-all is putting this together?

The Madisaurus is informally run by a small group of motorcycle-enthusiasts living in Madison, Wisconsin (and thought this might be a fun thing to put together). A guy named Shea Hickman is the principle instigator, and if you want to say "Hi" you can reach him through the Madisaurus Contact Page.

    Where-all is this taking place?

The event is loosely centered around The Silver Eagle Bar & Grill - 5805 Monona Dr, Monona, WI.

What will I need to participate in the Rally?

            • A street-legal form of transportation (could be a motorcycle but not necessarily).

            • A phone with the ability to take pictures and send emails (or at least a digital camera).

            • A functioning email address — preferably one you can access over your phone.

            • An awesome name for you or your team.

    About Us Monster

What do I need to participate in the Regale?

Nothing more than the wherewithall to find out where it is (secret location announced at the Breakfast Briefing).

Do I have to follow any particular route?

Nope. You get to choose your own routes.

Do I have to go to any particular destination?

Nope. We'll give you a list of destinations at the start of the event, and your only job will be to pick the five you like best. Please see the section titled how to play for a more complete discussion on how to play the Madisaurus (and how the scoring works).

Does my vehicle need to be in the photos?

Nope. Most destinations will have parking lots, but if they don't, it's perfectly okay to park a bit further down the road. Please always try to park in safe/designated spots.

What kind of destinations are included?

Some destinations will be close by, some will be some distance away. A goodly percentage will be at locations where you can also find yummy food and beverage.

Must I pay a cover or buy anything at the destinations?

No purchase or cover charge is required to successfully visit any destination.

    What happens if it rains?

The Madisaurus is a rain or shine event.

Do I have to attend the Regale to receive an award (assuming I win something?)

We can mail your trophy to you even if you're not at the Regale.

Do I receive anything of value if I win?

In addition to the not-insubstantial bragging rights - just the trophy - which is itself pretty darn cool.
